Clearly you’ve attempted to get your puppy help with this vet many, many times and it’s done nothing. That should already be an indication that you need a new vet because this one doesn’t know what he’s doing. OR your dog is allergic or immune to these antibiotics and other ones don’t seem to work (though he should know this if he did urinalysis to find out if your dog has antibodies or immunity to certain types of antibiotics like my vet did).

Also, your vet should be letting you swap out the antibiotics for FREE if it hasn’t worked on your dog after various different ones. Our dog was immune to one type so they let us bring back the remaining pills we had left and switch over to another one for free. A vet who cares and understands the situation will have no problem doing this as it’s more important your dog is getting help (and you’ve already paid for one round!) and they want the best for your dog. Otherwise, they really just love gouging you.

You will end up killing your dog if you do anything else

Antibiotics may help prevent a secondary infection but do nothing for kennel cough. Dextromethorphan is the ingredient in over the counter cough syrup that will actually help the cough. Kennel cough usually runs its course in 10 – 14 days. 4 weeks is a very long time for this virus. Find a different vet.
