I have read through most of the postings here on kennel cough and no one has provided a good answer.

I have a newly adopted pup from a shelter who has kennel cough. My other older dog has been vaccinated against it but i still try to keep them separate. The pup is 10-12 weeks old and has been coughing for more than a week. He is on antibiotics currently to treat it (its what the shelter gave me) but i would still like to give him something to ease the symptoms.

I am not looking to cure him because i’m already doing so with the antibiotics and I understand it needs to run its course. I would just like to make him more comfortable while he goes through it. He weighs approximately two pounds and i have given him a quarter teaspoon of kids robbitusin every six hours but it does not seem to help. I am reluctant to give him more since he is so small. Does anyone know of something to help ease his cough and his pain. I have heard of honey but I’m not sure how much or how often.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you!
Because he is a new dog, I was not able to get an appt until thursday afternoon at the earliest from my vet. Till then i dont want him to suffer and i made sure that all the components in the cough syrup are not toxic to dogs. such as acetamiinophen or ibuprophen. I also made sure its not only a cough suppressant since i understand he needs to cough up all the crap in his lungs. I just want something to soothe his throat.
