Kennel Cough in dogs is basically just a cold- they will cough, and possible run a fever. Past that, there is generally no real harm to the dogs. Many people choose to not vaccinate against it, although it’s required for dogs being boarded-
KC can have several strains- just like our flu viruses, so the KC vaccine is made from the "most popular" strain, and does not guarantee you are being vaccinated by the right strain.
The vet will sometimes give antibiotics to treat it.

the bacterial version is bordatella
My dog caught kennel cough. It’s basically a dog cold.
Really though they should have had the spray up the nose before you took them to the kennels.
