What is Kennel Cough?
Kennel cough is also know as tracheobronchitis. It is a highly contagious condition in dogs that consists of inflammation of the upper respiratory system. It can be caused by a viral or bacterial illness. The reason it is called “kennel cough” is because it can rapidly spread among dogs that are in close proximity to one another, such as in a kennel setting.
The awful sounding cough that your dog may have is scary and makes you sad to hear it. It is an unrelenting cough that is worsened by exertion or becoming agitated. Without treatment, it can worsen into other issues. This is why it is so important to start treatment as soon as possible to get your dog back in good health again!
