You can’t treat kennel cough without going to the vet. Especially since you can’t be 100% positive that it even is kennel cough without a vet diagnosing it.
There are no [safe] OTC medications for kennel cough. You will need to do the right thing for your dog and take him to the vet. How do you know it’s definitely KC without a vet’s diagnosis?
You need to take your dog to the vet so he can get the right antibiotics.
If you haven’t taken your dog to the vet – how do you know it’s Kennel Cough? There are many different illnesses that cause coughing.

Sometimes when we catch something like the flu we do not rush off to the Doctor and get treated and just stay at home . If you live over it you may be immune for life. If it gets bad enough , you will go to the doctor. Unfortunately we do not always know when its " bad enough" with dogs, taking temps , doing hour checks at night, giving supportive care .. these are things to do when your dog is sick. Even Vets do not stay the night at there hospitals to watch your dog, so who is up at night making sure your dog is not having a seizure or low bloodsugar etc.. no one.
