I have a rescue dog from a shelter that apparently had kennel cough, no symtoms…but must be a carrier. Two of my dogs got sick and recieved meds from our vet..but the vet didnt say anything about giving meds to the carrier. She is suppose to get spayed on the 15th…is that possible ? or should i cancel the appt and let them know she is a carrier of kennel cough ?

kennel cough is not anything a dog carries it comes from the kennel they were in usually concrete floors it usually effects puppys and codine takes care of the problem
Dagmar pretty much got it right. Just make sure you inform your vet before arriving to make sure it’s not going to cause any issues with the clinic and other pets around.
She’s most probably not a carrier, but just through the symptoms. Dogs are still contagious for some time after the symptoms have stopped., unfortunately, which is why it’s always best to keep a dog in (away from other dogs) for some time beyond when the symptoms have stopped. It’s a pity the Shelter people didn’t tell you KC was around in their kennels, and that she’d had it.
Medication, for the usual viral kind of KC, is not normally needed although vets these days are prescribing antibiotics to help ward off the KC going to pneumonia which is obviously serious especially to the puppy, or the elderly. Basically most dogs, especially if vaccinated against KC, will shake it off without any complications. This is like the human flu, and mutates so even if vaccinated, dog can be infected.
I think you should phone your vet re her spaying appointment – by the 15th, I’d suggest she should be clear of any KC, but that’s up to your vet to decide. As this is a respiratory infection, he’d need to make certain she’s okay for the anaesthetic.
Kennel Cough can stay around for 3 months after an infection, even if the symptoms are gone. There is not much you can do. I would inform the vet to make sure they disinfect everything thoroughly after your dog has had her surgery.
