Day Two again of kennel cough

Lack of sleep, exhausted, watery eyes, coughing gagging choking like cough, vomiting from severe coughing, bad smelling breath, if your dog has these symptoms they more than likely have contracted kennel cough, get them to the vet immediately as this is a highly contagious virus that can be passed on very quickly to other dogs.

Kennel Cough in Vaccinated Adult?

I have a two and a half year old Shepherd who for the past two days has been coughing and hacking, but nothing comes up. Theres no discharge, vomiting, diarrhea, listless, nothing. He’s perfectly happy and healthy, but has a cough. I’m pretty sure it’s kennel cough. I foster puppies through a rescue, and I had one here for about two weeks, who was vaccinated but still exposed to another dog that had kennel cough. The puppy did not have any symptoms, but I’m beginning to think he was a host. My dog is fully vaccinated and had his Bordatella vaccine in July 2010. Now what? I can’t really afford a 0 vet visit at the moment, although if that is absolutely what needs to be done and he doesn’t get any better in the next few days, I’ll have to do it. Any suggestions for home remedies? I don’t understand why if he was vaccinated he still got sick! How long does the vaccine last?

Kennel Cough, Symptoms and Treatment

Dr. Stephen Brammeier of Kingsbury Animal Hospital talks about Kennel Cough symptoms and how to treat it.

My Beagle is NOT feeling good :( :(?

I put my 2 Beagles in a kennel for 8 days, They were GREAT when I left them, I picked them up and 1 dog seems to be sick. Cough, sneeze & wheezing is all he does. He will eat, drink & has a raspy bark once in a while, but they are hounds and is known for the noise. His activity is VERY low, he just lays on the floor and won’t play as much with his brother.( Brother is fine) The kennel won’t take ownership he got sick in their care & basically blew me off. One dog had poo stuck to his bum and their teeth were disgusting. They are house dogs only and this is the first time I ever left them. They never been w/ other animals and even got ear mites in their care. They got a series of shots as well and I thought his reaction to the shots may be the cause of his symptoms…HELP ME PLEASE.. I don’t know what I can do at home until I can pay for another vet.

She really didn’t want the medicine. So far, so good though. Her cough has slowed.

Coughing/wheezing dog?

My Jackuhauha usually makes this sounds occasionally but today he has been doing it a lot and it lasts like 10 minutes.

Thirty years ago, whooping cough had nearly disappeared. Today, it’s back. The epidemic has already killed 10 babies and infected thousands of children this year in California. KPBS and the Watchdog Institute at SDSU are working together to look at who’s getting sick, facts about the vaccine, and how public health agencies have responded. www.kpbs.org

Why is my dog making a weird noise?

It sounds like part sneeze part hacking cough. Could it be kennel cough?

He’s up to date on all his vaccines. I boarded him overnight maybe 5 months ago.
hmm, mya is a ray of sunshine isnt she?
Thank you pilot. I was thinking it could be allergies too.

What might be wrong with my dog?

I am fostering a dog for a rescue group. She is very old, although we don’t know for sure her exact age. She’s a boxer. She has been having labored breathing with no wheezing or strange sounds. She has a gagging cough, but only on occasion, not frequently like with kennel cough. Her appetite comes and goes and she’s lost quite a bit of weight. She has trouble lying down … it’s almost as if it hurts her to relax. As a result, she spends most of the day standing. She’s drinking more than normal and having urine accidents in the house at night. I’m very worried about her. She’s going in to the vet this afternoon, but I just thought I’d ask and see if anyone has heard of these symptoms before. Also, she was on antibiotics for an infection, but finished them three days ago. All symptoms were occurring prior to the meds being administered.
I’ve had boxers my whole life too … and I would NEVER consider euthanasia as a first option. If her quality of life cannot be improved, then I would move forward with that decision but ONLY after all other avenues had been explored and all other options exhausted.
Update – took her to the vet. She had end-stage canine mediastinal lymphoma and her lungs were filled with fluid. They said she probably wasn’t strong enough for chemotherapy, so we had her put to sleep.

Tracheal Collapse

Yesterday Jelly was diagnosed with a moderate Tracheal Collapse. It’s not a rare condition but it is found mostly in toy breeds which Jelly is not. In hindsight he has had symptoms for quite a while. In the past few months it has developed into what you see in this video. He isn’t actually coughing up anything. The tracheal walls tickle when he exhales and trigger a cough reflex. Right now he gets plenty of air though it is somewhat restricted. He has started taking a prescription strength cough suppressant alone with something to dilate his airways. Right now Jelly is fine and can lead his normal life. The drugs should lessen his coughing episodes and except for extreme physical exertion, his breathing is normal. If it gets bad enough there are surgical procedures that hold the airway open with tubes or mesh stent. If you want to know more about this disease check out this website. It has a better description than I can give and they have actual X-rays. www.marvistavet.com

Coughing sneezing cough sneeze allergy small dog

My dog been doing this for 1 year since Summer… Visit the vet 4 times, they all say it is allergy. Tried different allergy medicine but didn’t work. My dog eats well, plays well, behaves the same except this coughing/sneezing sign. Can someone tell me what is this?? Someone told me it could be heart worm which I dont think so…

Jonah’s Kennel Cough

I know this is a horrible video. Just wanted to upload to show how Jonah has been coughing. The camera is too far to hear his coughs. Plus there wasn’t enough light to get a good look at him. Jonah has been coughing and gagging. We believe it’s kennel cough. We gave him some honey to soothe his throat and later on he’s going to get to go into a “sauna” to help his throat.

Chowmein’s CHF Cough

No, it’s not always kennel cough…This is a classic “CHF” cough. She used to look at me helplessly, as if she didn’t understand what was happening to her. I kept Chowmein and Wonton in the Green Playroom by themselves, so they could have companionship, but have a commotion-free area to rest in. Her brother looked visibly concerned when she’d start coughing, but stayed right with her. At first the Furosemide helped, but ultimately it couldn’t keep the fluid away. On her last night, he crawled into her bed beside her, leaving his own empty. After she died, he “reserved” a space in the bed for her, not permitting anyone else to sleep there. The first night, he tried howling to locate her, and was dismayed when she didn’t respond…It was heart-breaking. They shared a very close bond. Please remember to provide proper dental care for your dogs….regular brushing, and cleanings at the vets, is imperative for small dogs especially. Chowmein’s heart disease and overall condition was worsened by the condition that her previous owner allowed her teeth to be in, and led to her life being shorter than it had to be.
