Please, if anyone can help me, please reply to this comment. I have 3 dogs. All shi-tzus. One of them has a hacking cough just like this video said, and this has been going on for about 2 days now. (Since December 29 2008, and today is December 31 2008. My 2 other dogs sometimes come close to him, but so far my 2 other dogs seem completely fine, it is just him. Thanks.
It takes about 7 days for the cough to start and it is highly contagious. My dog is on house arrest to stop him spreading it on.
Unless I missed it isn’t it based on the weight of a dog? Should you not make sure the dosage is correct. Once again Robotussen is not approved for dogs and cats. It should only be recommended by a vet. Most vets say cough syrup is not effective. Once again, my dog had kennel cough that migrated into her lungs and now has pneumonia. Only a vet should give this advice after seeing the dog.
i gave my 4 month old puppy human cough syrup and then i googled if you should give a dog human cough syrup, and it said NO because there are toxic things that human can have that dogs cant. So now im really scared. what do i do? PLEASE MESSAGE ME IF YOU KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO.
A dog that goes to the local dog park just died from pneumonia as a result of kennel cough. It can be very dangerous. My dog had it once and he sounded awful. I didn’t take him to the vet because it was pretty much better within three days and he was eating and drinking and breathing fine… but now that I know a dog that died from it, I will go to the vet to get antibiotics no matter what if my dog gets it again. I will also ask about what cough syrup is ok. Thanks!
@RawFedSkye bordatella and the flue are 2 different things.
@Spalooosh
What is the point of your comment? He/she didn’t say that the flu(it’s flu, not flue) and kennel cough are the same.
A dog that has kennel cough can get progressively worse very quickly and it is correct to say that it can progress to pneumonia. Pneumonia is not the flu.
@rawfedskye
glad your pup was ok after. Yes kennel cough can get dangerous if it causes pneumonia to develop. Please everyone don’t downplay this. I know a dog that died from kennel cough also because it progressed to pneumonia.
A Ph.D. does not qualify you to advise pet owners how to medically treat a dog. Improper dosing using any over-the-counter drug can lead to serious side effects, those of which someone trained in animal behavior is probably unaware. Please do the smart thing and take your pet to a licensed Veterinarian (that has a D.V.M.) and get real advice on how to deal with infectious diseases.
