Okay, I got a 8 week old puppy about a week ago and Thursday I started noticing that it started coughing, but the vet just gave her the dewormer and told me to isolate her and keep her indoors. So far today she has been coughing every 20 mins or so but she stil has a good appetite does not have diarrea and its playful. What is it KC or distemper? and what can I give her?

Here are some Basic Home Treatment for your dog’s kennel cough which includes:
1) Keeping your dog warm, quiet and free from drafts
2) Removing your dog’s collar to prevent excessive coughing stimulation
3) Encouraging your dog to drink plenty of fresh water
4) Providing wet food just in case your dog’s throat is sore and irritated
You can provide additional relief for your pet by giving him a vaporizing treatment three times a day. Run a hot shower in your bathroom and let the steam build up with the door closed. Take your dog into the bathroom and let him breathe in the steam for 20 minutes. The vapor will help open his bronchial tubes, which in turn makes his coughs more productive. This will enable your dog to rid himself of more of the phlegm
Call your vet in the morning. You would know if your pet had distemper as you’d be at the hospital with her.
Google it.
I’d recommend going back to the vet. You can also call the veterinary office and describer her symptoms. They can offer advice on what steps to take.
Kennel cough is more likely. What you can give her is a phone call to the vet with an update about her symptoms. They can advise you what to do from there.
Kennel cough. Similar to human colds, kennel cough is not usually a big deal and dogs will recover just fine on their own. I would not give her anything unless the coughing becomes too much for her to sleep… if she coughs that badly, get directions from your vet for OTC human cough medicine for her. You can steam up the bathroom, and let her play in there for a while to loosen up congestion. Allow her to rest as much as she will. If she begins to act like she feels ill (lethargy, reduced appetite, whatever), get her back to the vet… in rare cases kennel cough can progress to pneumonia, and that would need to be treated.
Do keep her isolated and don’t be around other people’s dogs or puppies yourself. Kennel cough is not severe, but it is very contagious.
you cant get distemper its not zoonotic. and signs you would see are fever, anorexia, lethargy, and a mild serous ocular discharge thats the start of it and those are all things that you would notice and put up on here.
it doesn’t sound like she has that.
so I would say its KC. which isn’t too bad.
you take her to the vet they know how to treat both.
Hello! My puppy tested positive for distemper several weeks ago and had very mild symptoms at the beginning. If coughing is the only symptoms your pup is presenting then most likeley it is kennel cough. If you notice your pup having any nasal/eye discharge, congestion or etc. then you need to contact your vet immediatly. My pup just had congestion with a crusty nose and that was it….she would not respond to the meds though which made us test for distemper, which sure enough she had
Your vet should put your pup on antibiotics for secondary infections….Our vet also gave us an oral vitamin supplament and prescribed mucine x. You need to be sure and boost your puppie’s immune system during this time and allow her to rest. Good luck!
